Richard Coates CE Primary welcomes new Headteacher

Overview

Richard Coates CE Primary School has a curriculum designed to inspire and engage, setting high academic standards while preparing children to become confident, caring individuals equipped with skills for their futures. The children of Richard Coates are eager to make a difference in their community, and are actively involved in charity projects and initiatives that teach the values of service and compassion.

The new headteacher, Mr James Watson started in September, and says, "As the new headteacher of Richard Coates CE Primary School, I am honoured to lead a school that has proudly served the Ponteland community for nearly 300 years. Having held senior leadership roles across multiple schools in Ponteland and within Pele Trust, I am passionate about contributing to this vibrant community. With a rich history and a commitment to Christian values—kindness, respect, and perseverance—we provide a nurturing environment where young learners thrive. Our school motto, “Let your light shine,” captures our dedication to giving each child a rich, fulfilling primary school experience, uncovering their unique talents, and encouraging them to shine as individuals."

Richard Coates CE supports children’s broader development by encouraging new hobbies and talents through a growing range of extra-curricular clubs including arts and crafts, sport, cookery and more. With extensive grounds, forest school areas, and state-of-the-art sports facilities, Richard Coates CE Primary School are fortunate to incorporate outdoor learning into daily lessons. The curriculum is further enriched by hands-on experiences and strong community connections, including active engagement with parents and visitors, as well as local and international trips that broaden our children’s perspectives.

Mr James Watson reflects on his time so far stating, "I have been greatly impressed by the children's exemplary behaviour, manners, and enthusiasm for learning." He continues on to say, "There's a real buzz throughout the school, and I am thrilled to be part of the next chapter in our journey."
